Obama's New Idea:  Spending $7 Billion of our Tax Money on Electric Soccer Balls for Africa

by Chicks on The Right, annotated by FM Duck

(July 02, 2013)

This week, Obama's decided to take $7 Billion of our hard-earned money and give it to Africa -- in the form of electric soccer balls.

"We’re going to start by investing $7 billion in U.S. government resources.  ...that's what opportunity looks like."  -- Barack Obama

"No, that's what state collectivism, socialism, and robbery of the American people looks like." -- FM Duck

That Obama. He's one innovative dude. With other people's money.

This week, Obama's decided to take $7 Billion of our hard-earned money and give it to Africa - in the form of electric soccer balls. They're called "socket balls," specifically, and they were created by two chicks at Harvard (natch). And Dear Leader plans on powering Africa with these soccer balls that carry electric generators inside of them. No lie. Basically, as kids kick them around all day long, "it generates electricity and stores it in a battery." And then those kids can go home and plug something into the ball, like a phone or a lamp or a hair dryer, or whatever.

From the White House transcript of Obama's speech from yesterday:

"I am proud to announce a new initiative. We’ve been dealing with agriculture, we’ve been dealing with health. Now we’re going to talk about power -- Power Africa -- a new initiative that will double access to power in sub-Saharan Africa. Double it. (Applause.) We’re going to start by investing $7 billion in U.S. government resources. We’re going to partner with the private sector, who themselves have committed more than $9 billion in investment. And in partnership with African nations, we’re going to develop new sources of energy. We’ll reach more households not just in cities, but in villages and on farms. We’ll expand access for those who live currently off the power grid. And we’ll support clean energy to protect our planet and combat climate change. (Applause.) So, a light where currently there is darkness; the energy needed to lift people out of poverty -- that’s what opportunity looks like."  [Note by FM Duck:  No, that's what state collectivism, socialism, and robbery of the American people looks like.  It's a question of individual rights.  Not the faux individual rights to "receive" by confiscation of one party's production (taxation of the American people), but rather individual rights to voluntarily exchange in a free and open market by both Americans and Africans.  Obama has implemented the former (which is robbery) when he should have merely encouraged the good that could occur if the latter was allowed to happen for all commodities in all markets, including the US.  But then, Obama and all left Liberals have no idea how and why free markets should be allowed to work.  All left Liberals assume that people in freedom are inherently bad and must be controlled by, hmmm, guess who?  The state collectivist Liberals themselves, of course.]

Socket balls. Seven billion bucks.

And it all seems so awesomely benevolent and philanthropic and indeed quite innovative, I know. But here's the thing, y'all. WE ARE GOING BROKE. If you don't believe me, you are welcome to watch it live yourself.  [Just log onto the US Debt Clock on FM Duck's Home Page.]  And that's $7 Billion he wants to drop on soccer balls to be generous to another country. Which is really super sweet and all, but does anyone out there remember what $7 Billion looks like?

Let's reel it in for a second and just TRY TO REMEMBER.

ELECTRIC SOCCER BALLS.

WE'RE GOING BROKE.

[FM Duck:  Good intentions.  Bad economics.  Bad moral philosophy RE individual rights.  Go home, Obama.  Read Hayek's Socialism: The Road to Serfdom.]

Move along. – FM Duck
